Youth Escort Policy (YEP)

Please note: The Youth Escort Policy can be implemented at management’s discretion at any other day and time when it is deemed appropriate or necessary by management, security and/or local authorities.

The policy is in effect for the entire property. In addition, unsupervised shoppers under the age of 18 will not be permitted to congregate in the mall parking lot.

The policy states:

  1. Alamance Crossing visitors under 18 are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian 21 years or older on Friday and Saturday evenings after 6 PM, or at any other time the policy is in effect.
  2. Security will begin monitoring those entering the center at 6 PM on Friday and Saturday evenings.
  3. Unescorted youth shopping prior to 6 PM on Friday and Saturday evenings must leave the property by 6 PM or be joined by a parent or guardian.
  4. Unescorted youth will be asked to leave the center after 6 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, or any other time the policy is in effect.
  5. Youth under 18 may attend a movie when the policy is in effect, but must go directly to the theater and remain in the theater before the movie begins and leave the center after exiting the theater. If the theater will not allow you to wait inside their building before or after the movie you may wait on the sidewalk in front of the theater for a period of time up to 30 minutes.
  6. Individuals utilizing public or other forms of transportation must schedule their departure time to ensure compliance with the 6 PM youth/guardian policy.
  7. Individuals in violation of the Alamance Crossing YEP program or in violation of any posted rules that refuse to leave the property when requested to do so by a security officer may be prosecuted for trespassing.
  8. Proof of age will be required if the age of the youth and/or parent or legal guardian is not easily determined. Those whose age cannot be determined and who lack identification will be asked to the leave the property.
  9. Acceptable identification is a photo ID from a state agency, school, or employer.
  10. Youth under 18 working on property will be allowed access without a parent or legal guardian. Proof of work status will be required and employees must go directly to place of employment and must leave the property at the conclusion of their work shift, if after 6 PM on Friday and/or Saturday evenings, or at any other time the policy is in effect.
  11. One parent, over 21 years of age, may escort all his/her children. Additionally, one parent or guardian, over 21 years of age, may escort up to 3 youths, at least one of the youths must be the child of the parent or guardian.
  12. Parents or guardians are responsible for the actions of the escorted youth.
  13. Any person violating the posted rules of behavior will be asked to leave Alamance Crossing.
  14. If an escorted youth is banned from the center, the adult escort will also be banned for the same period.
  15. Security personnel are responsible for enforcing this policy and the procedures.
  16. Alamance Crossing YEP guidelines are posted throughout the shopping center

Suggested Safety Tips for Shopping

  • Note your parking location.
  • Remember to lock your car.
  • If you're shopping with family or friends, prearrange a place and a time to meet.
  • Never leave children unattended. If your child wanders away, please contact mall security for assistance.
  • Teach your children their full name....as well as yours.
  • Carry a current photo of your child with you.
  • Don't leave packages or other personal property unattended.
  • Guard your handbag, wallet and credit cards...don't flash your cash.
  • Always have keys in hand before you reach your car.
  • Check your car from a distance to make sure no one is loitering near it.
  • Always lock car doors as soon as you get inside.
  • Always be aware of your surroundings.
  • If you notice anything suspicious, report it to mall security.
  • Never hesitate to ask for assistance.
